What is Universal Design?

Universal Design and Accessibility is now law in the United States and Australia and will likely be integrated into law in Canada within the next few years. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act

The final Section 508 standards for accessible information technology were published by the Access Board in December of 2000 and they took effect June 25, 2001. That means that all electronic and information technology purchased by American Federal agencies, or provided to the public by those agencies, must be accessible as measured by the Section 508 Standards. (Quote from Jim Thatcher)

It is recognized that many people use the internet, not only young able bodied people, but increasingly people with disabilities, including people with visual impairments and mobility impairments. Also, statistics show that we are a 'greying nation' which means more older adults are spending their income on leisure time, purchasing by first going online to find out what products are available and accessing information. Making your site accessible to these groups of people increases your market share, as well as there are increasing numbers of people using hand-held devices which have less access to traditional websites. These issues can be rectified by accessible design techniques which Interlocking Solutions builds into your site.

Interlocking Solutions believes that good design should not be sacrificed for accessibility, and nor should accessibility be dismissed in the name of flashy design, We incorporate both aspects into our designs so that your site will be attractive and accessible to all.

Design Elements:

These are just some of the Design Elements which can be incorporated into your Web Page:

  1. An original design which will be yours alone. We will design a Web site which reflects your ideas and company style in keeping with the type of site you are looking for.
  2. We can also, of course, use existing templates (which will decrease the cost), and perhaps you would like us to do some customization to make it more individual.
  3. Your existing graphics (your logo, or perhaps photographs of you, your staff or your company headquarters, etc.) can be used on your Web page. We will convert and optimize them for quick downloading
  4. Original artwork (e.g. logo, see Graphics Design). If you don't already have a logo or company image, we can design one for you and incorporate it into your Web site.
  5. Title bars displaying your corporate logo used throughout for maximum corporate image impact
  6. Customized navigation buttons, button bars and icons can be used. These will give your site a consistent look and feel which is in-keeping with your company's image
  7. Animation, sound and video effects
  8. A Database or Catalogue of your company's products and all the necessary facilities required for easy on-line choosing, making your Web site an On-Line Shop front from which to increase your company's business and extend your marketplace worldwide.
  9. If you have existing brochures or other advertising materials which adequately lay out what you would like your Web site to say, we can use the copy from your brochures or other advertising materials. We can also convert text from hardcopy using scanning, if that's the only format you have it in.
  10. If you don't yet have any advertising text, we can write the content of your Website for you. The art of copy writing takes skill and understanding of the target audience, and we have many years' experience in language use to enhance your website. With a combination of the right words and graphics with impact, your Web page can achieve whatever you want it to!

Publishing - Getting your site out there

We will take care of all that for you:
  1. Ensuring the correct meta code is included in your site to make it easier for casual browsers to find your site when they type in keywords
  2. Helping you register your domain name

Our Area Of Operations

Everywhere! That's the beauty of the Internet - people can work together across the world. We have clients who we've never met personally and we have, in fact, saved a lot of wasted time that way! Where feasible, though, personal meetings and fact-finding sessions will take place.

You will also be able to view the progress of your Web site via a Web address at our site tailor made for you specifically so that you can check on the process at any time from your own computer. This fast and convenient method enables you see all your project visuals in real terms, e.g. corporate logo, Web graphics, etc. You can view proposals and give feedback quickly and in your own time, thus ensuring that approvals or revisions do not delay the project unnecessarily.
